My 5 Minute Grey Cover-Up

This year is the first year that I’m starting to really feel older. I’m turning 40 in September and I’m starting to notice my body changing. Aches and pains just don’t go away like they used to, it feels harder to stay in shape, and my appearance is changing. Wrinkles are starting to be more prominent and the greys continue to come in! Just like I have a diet and skincare regimen to prevent wrinkles and unwanted weight gain, I also started a regimen to keep the grey away.

There’s nothing wrong with aging, but that doesn’t mean that if there are things that are changing that you’re not happy with, and you have the ability to change them, that you shouldn’t. I partnered up with Cremo to try out and share with you how their Hair & Beard Dye works!

Most of my grey hair is in my beard, and the few greys that I do have on my head I actually don’t mind as much. For some reason the greys in my beard seem to have a mind of their own LOL They’re more coarse, they don’t tame as easily and they tend to make my beard look less cleaned up and more chaotic, so I had to find a simple solution for these guys. The best thing about the Cremo Hair & Beard Dye is how easy and quick it is to use. You literally just clip on the applicator, shake it, apply, wait 5 minutes, and rinse! There’s no mixing, no need for gloves, and it’s just all around super easy. I find that for any of my grooming routines if it’s not convenient, then I’m not going to follow through with it. For my beard, I just painted the foam on with the included brush, and that was it. The bottle comes with enough so that there is a bunch left over so I can just keep reusing it as necessary. They also have a bunch of different colors to choose from to find your best color match. I used the #10 Deep Brown Color and it was perfect.

I’m so glad I got to try this product out because again, it was so quick and easy. I really dig the results and even my wife, who thought she liked the grey hairs, thought it looked better after it was dyed. I definitely looked younger and by covering up the greys my beard as whole just looked more cleaned up and almost as if it was freshly trimmed – but it wasn’t, it just now had a nice even color tone, that aided in that groomed up look!

Trimming Down for Summer

Over the past few months, I’ve been growing out my beard. I tend to do that a lot during the winter months, and it was coming in quite nicely if I do say so myself! I think I tend to get bored with the scruff, so I grow it in to switch up my look, and then eventually I get bored of the beard, so I end up shaving it back down.

With the warmer weather right around the corner, it was finally time to shave it down. Sometimes I feel like the full beard makes me look heavy in the face and honestly, once it gets this long, it just feels so itchy to me. Not sure how all those guys with super long beards do it! I recently partnered up with Panasonic to try out their Panasonic Precision Wet/Dry Beard & Hair Trimmer – EG-GB42, and it couldn’t have come at a better time since I recently dropped my other trimmer and shattered it…and, I’ve been itching (literally) to shave my beard down for some time now.

The trimmer cut really well and honestly, my favorite part might be the all-in-one adjustable clip. You can just turn the dial to adjust the length of the cut, and you don’t need to worry about swapping out different clips for different lengths, and in my case, losing them – because I would always misplace mine! It also makes storing the trimmer so much easier, since there are less pieces required. Come to think of it, this might be the perfect trimmer for travel as well! You can use it on either wet or dry hair, it’s compact and not too bulky, and again, it doesn’t require all of those different sized attachments. Normally my wife wouldn’t approve of me leaving my trimmer out because she hates clutter LOL, but because of its black, sleek design I just leave it plugged into its charging dock on the wall, and it’s so convenient. I love it!

Valentine’s Day Ideas With Goodsey

It’s February and that means Valentines day is coming (in 5 days actually!)! I love Valentine’s day. It’s just another day that you can really devote to showing your loved ones how much they mean to you. Now that doesn’t mean it’s all about spending a bunch of money on them, but instead it’s more about the thought you put into the day…as it always should be. I have always made sure to make Valentine’s Day special for my wife, but now that we have my son Nate, I know I have to make it special for both of them. I actually made the mistake of thinking my son was not into Valentines day last year and didn’t really get him anything special and he was devastated. My wife and I felt horrible, because here my little 6 year old son was picking out something special for the both of us at his school store (which obviously melted our hearts) and we didn’t get him anything. I’m not sure why but we just didn’t think he would’ve been into it but we were wrong. He was upset but after talking to him he understood and let us off the hook. Now we know this year we have to make it extra special for him!

For me when I’m shopping for Nate and my wife I always try to think about what they’re into and things I know they are going to like. My wife has never really been into roses or flowers. She appreciates them, but I know it’s really just the fact that I thought of her, not really the actual flowers that excite her. I usually let Nathan pick out her gift because I know that whatever she gets from him the actual gift will have meaning to her and will not just get pushed aside and be forgotten about, and it won’t just be flowers that are so short-lived. For that reason I love jewelry as a gift! It doesn’t always have to be something expensive. Get what you can afford and if there’s thought behind it, I’m sure it will make someone’s day. I actually even love getting jewelry myself especially from my wife and son. Every time you wear that piece, you will think of the person who gave it to you. And when you get older, maybe you will end up passing it down to someone else and you can share the story of who gave it to you and where you were at that time and how it made you feel when you got it. For all of these reasons, jewelry is one of my favorite gifts to give and get! Nate seems to be following my footsteps when it comes to the gifting department because lately that’s all he ever thinks of buying myself, my wife or his grandparents. It’s too cute actually.

This year we used the Goodsey Valentine’s Gift Finder to find the perfect gift for mommy. Nate and I sat together and scrolled until he found something he knew mommy would love. I didn’t want to point it out because I knew he wanted to be the one to pick it out but I was actually eyeing the same necklace hoping he would pick it and he did! The answers were across the board! In terms of what people wanted this year…candy & chocolates are always a fave, the obvious one flowers, anything with thought behind it, and a relaxing night with a loved one or even alone were the top answers. Sounds like some people could use some gifts in the pampering department! I found some cute and unique gifts from the Goodsey website to hit each of these categories!

FLOWERS: Maybe don’t go with the typical bouquet this year, instead opt for something cute and different! I can just see setting this up with your significant other’s favorite snacks, whether it’s cheese and crackers, fruits, all the ingredients for some yummy s’mores and of course with a side bottle of your favorite wine. Sounds like a romantic time to me!

PAMPERING: Surprisingly some people responded that they wanted a relaxing evening at home alone – hey no problem with that! Everyone can use that quiet alone time. Whether you’re buying for your significant other or even yourself, I say have a little spa day at home. This Cherry Blossom Spa Gift Set is the perfect gift for anyone whose in need of some self pampering, or the perfect gift to give someone who could use a little me time!

GUYS: I’m not sure how many guys really care about getting anything too big on Valentine’s Day but I could think of at least 5 guys right now, and even some girls, who would appreciate the Craft Beer Flight Beverage Sampler as a cool gift!

Hey, and if the budget doesn’t allow for any gifts this year, the perfect card that shows you took the time out to go find the perfect way to express your love is honestly all that’s needed.

Aside from the gift and card giving, Valentine’s Day is all about using that one day to do something a little more special together than you normally would. Again this doesn’t mean that you have to spend a ton of money. It just means you have to make it special! For my family it has now become a tradition that we go away skiing for Valentine’s Day. It’s something that we all love to do together and honestly just makes it really feel special that we’re enjoying something we love together as a family. I love the idea of getting away with your loved ones! From the Instagram poll, that was one of the top mentioned answers and I’m all for it! If you’re both active, maybe go for a hike or a bike ride, or go rock climbing…as long as you’re both having fun together. You can also keep it simple. One of my favorite memories of my wife and I spending Valentine’s day together was before my son was born and we had said we weren’t going to spend a lot of money because we were saving for a house and thinking about having a baby. My wife used to LOVE Taco Bell so I got home before her and set up a bunch of candles, some roses, rented a movie (when you actually went to Blockbuster), and set up a romantic picnic on the living room floor (Taco Bell and all) and she LOVED it! Haha It’s all about spending time together and trying to think of ways to make the other person feel special knowing you know what makes them happy. No matter what you do, just be there in the moment. Maybe again, it’s something as simple as spending the night in and getting take-out or going out to eat but definitely agreeing to leaving the phone at home so you’re just focused on each other!

Some other top suggestions when Tiffany and I asked our followers on Instagram what they had planned for Valentine’s Day was: a weekend away, yummy food (I’m all for that!), a romantic dinner at home, a ring for your significant other, family time (same here!), and for others….alone time or nothing at all!

To some it’s just another day, but for me, I do like to put in a little extra effort no matter how big or small, just to show my love and appreciation for the ones that matter most to me. The Perfect Versatile Polo

When choosing new apparel to pick up I always look for versatile, quality pieces. For some reason my closet is always lacking long-sleeve tops that I can rock in the colder months. I don’t always love wearing heavy sweaters because a lot of times they just make me feel too bulky, and I can’t rock my typical short-sleeve printed button-downs this time of year, so I always seem to be on the hunt for those in-between tops!

Psycho Bunny has classic pieces with just a tad of edge that I like. I recently picked up their black Drake Long Sleeve Polo and I just know it’s the kind of top that you can rock with just about anything. You can dress it down with jeans, casual it up a bit with slacks, or dress it up even more with a suit. For this look, I decided to pair the top with a simple black suit for a casual street style vibe! No matter how I style an outfit, I always like to give it a bit of edge…that’s why this classic black polo with ribbed collar and their edgy Psycho Bunny logo patch went perfectly! You can never go wrong with an all-black look!

For me, when it comes to wearing polo shirts I like when they have just touches of small details like the stripes on the cuffs & collar and the iconic bunny & crossbones in this gold is such a cool touch! I like that they kept it simple and classic but again, added just enough details to edge it up. Another element of this shirt that I like is the fit. It has a trim fit that makes it look slim on you, without it having that snug slim fit. They also make this shirt in white, which is another good classic piece to have in the closet!

And, I’m sure I mentioned it before, but did you know they have a 365 day return policy? It might be my favorite feature of their site. Too many brands have such a short return window, that by the time you get the merchandise, try it on, decide if you like it enough to keep it, you’re already stuck with it because you’re passed the return window – ridiculous! That’s why that perk of Zappos is probably one of my faves, oh, and the free shipping and returns!

Hey Portal, Call the Grandparents

I love adding new technology into my house. So, when I was gifted the new Portal+ from Facebook, I was super excited! I’ve seen the Portal from Facebook commercials, but never realized how much I would love it until I actually started using it. What’s better than a device that makes it so easy to see loved ones and brings family and friends closer no matter where in the world we are. And that’s exactly what this Portal does!

As soon as I opened the box I couldn’t believe the size of the screen – it was much larger than I expected and I love the way it stands up on it’s own and also allows the screen to swivel from a vertical to horizontal orientation. It has a sleek yet sturdy feeling to it. Portal from Facebook is so easy to use with the large touch screen or you can do things like start or answer a video call with “Hey Portal”! It also comes with Alexa built-in so you can start off your commands with “Alexa…” as well. Obviously, the coolest feature is definitely using Portal to make video calls by utilizing your Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp contacts and allowing you to have instant face to face calls with them, hands-free.

It’s so amazing…you don’t even have to stop doing what you’re doing in the house because you can initiate the calls with voice commands, and then the camera will actually keep you centered in frame as you move around the room. If there’s more than one person in the room, it will widen the lens to include everyone or zoom in and focus on the person speaking. With the size and quality of the screen it really almost makes it seem like the person you’re video calling is actually in the room with you!

Besides the video-calling feature, Nate is also able to watch his favorite Youtube videos on it, we’re able to stream music with different apps, and it also has a digital picture frame feature, which I’ve actually always wanted for our house! You can display photos from your Facebook and Instagram, or upload photos to your Portal devices directly from your smartphone’s camera roll. We have so many pictures that just sit on our phones, that it’s nice to finally be able to see them featured somewhere in our house. The speaker quality of Portal really surprised us. It’s really clear and goes louder than you would think a device like this would be able to. We love it so much and love having it in our kitchen. We always seem to find ourselves saying “Hey Portal, play some Christmas music” and dancing or spinning around in the kitchen – so it’s perfect.

Portal from Facebook is available in Portal+ (the device we went with!), Portal, Portal Mini, and then Portal TV. Portal offers a 10″ HD display and Portal Mini offers a 8″ HD display video calling experience and both offer the built-in Alexa as well. Portal TV allows video calling on the biggest screen in your home! The smart camera hooks up to your TV and instantly makes it feel like the ones you’re speaking to are right there in your home with you. We felt like our GG’s were with us on the Portal+, so I can’t even imagine what it must feel like if their loving faces were up there on our 60″! Portal TV is a great way for families to stay connected. When speaking with a loved one through the phone, with no visual connection you still feel like you’re miles apart, but as soon as you see those faces come through, the call no longer feels distant and instead it feels like they’re right there with you.

This is such an awesome gift idea for a relative or friend who you don’t get to normally see as much as you’d like. We love being able to video call Nate’s great-grandparents in Arizona and my sister in Maryland. Before Portal from Facebook, I feel like I’d catch myself saying “Wow, I haven’t seen the grandparents in months” Now, even though it may not be in person, I don’t have that same feeling of not seeing them in a while. It’s just a different kind of closer feeling and connection you get when actually seeing the person you’re speaking to, rather than just talking on the phone. The fact that you don’t even need to be near the device or touch it and still be able to make your call and see the person you’re calling, has me already making the switch from my regular smart phone to the Portal from Facebook. This household loves it!

Nobody Doesn’t Like SaraLee :)

This time of year is really the most magical time of year! Right from Thanksgiving, up until New Year’s it’s filled with so much fun, activities and family time and I absolutely love it! With that said, it’s also the busiest time of year. Between work, shopping, fun time with the family, and all the holiday parties, we’re barely left with any spare time. As much as I enjoy baking, especially with my son Nate because he loves to bake, when it gets this hectic and our time is limited, I just rely on the fan favorite Sara Lee Desserts!

Sara Lee is just that brand that you remember when you were younger. Your grandparents had it, your parents bought it, and now I’m buying it for my family. Besides being so good, it just makes you feel cozy. I love the ease of being able to have a delicious cake or pie anytime I want but without the hassle, time and mess. The best thing about it is that I can grab it from my local grocery store and just keep it frozen until it’s time to enjoy. I myself usually always go for the Dutch Apple Pie or a cheesecake. Nothing’s better than warm apple pie with a scoop of french vanilla ice cream….mmmmm so good! My mother-in-law is the one that actually got me hooked on their cheesecake! The first time we had it together she would always talk about how it reminded her of her childhood and that her mother used to always buy it for them as a kid. Even though it wasn’t my childhood, it felt nostalgic for me too.

When I went to pick up my Sara Lee Dutch Apple Pie, I brought Nate with me, and he told me he wanted to try the All Butter Pound Cake this time. Normally his favorite one to grab is always the Chocolate Creme Pie but since we already had some left of this one from our last trip, he decided he wanted to try something new! I was really excited because I feel like the pound cake is one of the most underrated cakes there is. It doesn’t get the street cred it deserves.

Honestly, the fact that it doesn’t have all the frosting and sprinkles is what makes it so good! The flavor just speaks for itself and you can dress it up anyway you like! I couldn’t believe this was the first time both my wife and son were trying pound cake! They both love plain, buttery treats, so I couldn’t believe they had never had it before. This time around we kept it kind of simple with just some whipped cream and I was shocked at how much Nate was loving it.

I mean this kid has around 4 brownie sundaes a week LOL, so he knows his desserts! I wasn’t sure if he was going to tell me it was a little plain but all he kept saying was “can I have another piece?” LOL I always knew I loved their pound cake, so I was happy that Nate and my wife agreed with me. He did say he was curious about what other things we could add to it for next time, but that’s what makes pound cake so good…you can keep it plain or switch it up anyway you want. Even as I’m writing this, it shocks me that this was a cake was ever even frozen! It’s easy to forget because it’s so good.

With the Christmas music playing, tree lights on, Nate running around with his little Elfie in hand, my wife wrapping gifts, and our Sara Lee Desserts about to be served, I just love this time of year so much. It was so great sharing Nate’s first Sara Lee Pound Cake experience with him. Just sitting at the counter together with silly conversations over our Sara Lee pound cake and pie had me feeling the same way my mother-in-law was speaking about her childhood with her parents. We’re continuing the traditions over here with Sara Lee Desserts!

How We Show Our #GiantsPride With NFL Shop!

This time of year is Magical and it’s definitely my family’s favorite time of year. Not only because it’s holiday season, but also because it’s FOOTBALL Season! I honestly look forward to Sunday all week long just so I can watch my NY Giants take the field. Now granted they stink right now…LOL, but that does not stop us from supporting our team!

We teamed up with the NFL Shop to combine my two faves: getting cozy and football! These New York Giants Holiday Pajama Sets are perfect for snuggling up on the couch, with snacks, cuddles and football…especially this time of year as we’re quickly approaching the countdown to Christmas! I really love how we can rock our team colors and logo but also feel that festive holiday spirit all at the same time. For me, it’s seriously the best of both worlds!

Like most football-loving families, we have our traditions and that includes snacks, being silly, cheering for our team, and of course comfy clothes…and these NFL Shop NY Giants PJ’s couldn’t be more perfect! When Nate and I aren’t snuggling mommy, and on commercial breaks, we’re busy practicing our football moves and pretty much acting like maniacs LOL. I just love this time of year with the fam! Oh, and you didn’t think we’d forget our little Simba did you? Even your family pet can get in on the holiday spirit and show support for your fave team, with a cute little onesie! 🙂 Nate loved that we were all able to match and it felt kind of special to me too. Football Sunday alone is a good bonding day, but when the happy, festive emotions are heightened with fun & matchy matchy pj sets, it just takes the gitty mood to the next level! Ahhh, love my little family of mine!

Current Mood: Happy Socks!

By now you probably know me and that I’m known for going sockless with a lot of my looks…even in winter! But, when I do rock socks, it’s usually not for comfort or warmth LOL but instead to add a little something to my outfit! So, if I’m going to rock a pair of socks, I want them to have a little something extra: a cool design, fun colors, texture, a pattern…you get the point!

My go-to brand when I’m in need of fun, colorful & funky socks? Happy Socks! I think I tend to gravitate towards bold simplistic patterns when it comes to socks, rather than overly busy and colorful…but that’s just me! That’s why these were right up my alley and I immediately knew what pieces I was going to rock with them!

I feel like some might normally think to only want to rock these during Valentine’s day, but I’m all for the love & smiles all year long. Honestly, this kind of pattern is so in right now and is the kind of classic icon that just doesn’t get played out. I mean, check out my sneakers! It was only right that I played up the heart icon with these. I kept the rest of my outfit simple but had to bring out that red! I’m digging this casual street look with these Happy Socks! I also grabbed this same pair in the red because I just loved the pattern so much, but my wife already snagged them from me! 🙂

How I Styled My #ZapposxAnimalFarm Trucker!

I’m definitely an accessories guy! I love jewelry, I love sunglasses, and most of all, I love hats! If you’ve been following my instagram account @BlueCollarPrep, then you know I love hats! They are just one of those accessories that can really add that extra something to your outfit and can also just completely change the vibe.

I just copped this awesome Goorin Brothers Animal Farm Snap Back Trucker Hat from Zappos.com! Excited to add this new accessory into my wardrobe because I really don’t have too many trucker hats in my collection, and it’s always good to have at least a few because I love how it can instantly toughen up and give a bit of ruggedness to any look. Goorin Brothers has soooo many different Farm Snap Backs to choose from and there are so many ones I like! I went with the Fowl, mainly because I really like the camo 🙂 and I think the fowl just fits perfectly with the print. I love how this hat adds the perfect amount of camo to any outfit. And I really love how camo looks with orange, so I immediately knew I was going to pair this hat with my orange turtleneck – I just think the colors compliment each other perfectly and give it that cool outdoorsy vibe that I like. I love the oversized patches on the collection and the muted & rich colors they went with. These are the kind of hats that you can throw on with any look and like I said before, just toughen it up a bit!

I always love how trucker hats can go with any outfit…from jeans, to chinos to even suits! I’ve worn them with a suit before and I love how it instantly can casual up the look and give it more of a laid-back hip street style. With my Goorin Brothers Fowl Trucker, I really like the fact that it has a slightly larger cap on top rather than some of the other trucker hats I have. Something about the raised top just gives it a little something extra in a modern fashion-forward kind of way. I just like like it!

I honestly don’t know any other website that I shop at that has a 365 day return policy – that’s incredible! I always tend to sit on new purchases for a few days before deciding if I want to keep it, so with a return policy like this, plus the free shipping & returns and the free 2-day shipping for rewards members, there are so many benefits as a shopping customer, it’s a no brainer when shopping on their website! I hate paying for shipping and I hate when websites have such a short return policy window, so thank you Zappos!

My Go-to Jacket Brand & An Exciting Announcement!

A leather coat is one of those essential pieces that everyone should own. There’s so many different styles of leather jackets you can always find the perfect jacket no matter what your style is. When it comes to leather, quality to me, is one of the most important aspects in picking the right brand to go with. These jackets are an investment and if you treat them right they will be with you forever and are well worth it!

Growing up I was always into military style pieces. My father worked at the docks in Brooklyn and we always visited Army/Navy stores together when I was younger. I think that’s probably what really ignited my love for the armed forces kind of vibe. Unfortunately, I was never able to own a leather jacket growing up, so I knew that once I was in a position to get my own, it would have to be a quality leather!

Cockpit USA is one of my all time favorite outerwear brands! Not only are they top quality, but I love that when I style them, their jackets just have this bit of edge to them that I like. Now their edge doesn’t come from trying to be edgy, but it actually just comes from staying authentic to iconic American civilian and military design. Cockpit USA has been around for over 40 years, and they continue to make jackets that are suitable for pilots and guys like us that want bad ass jackets – like some of the styles I’m rocking here. Whether it’s a bomber, sheepskin, leather, textile or a varsity jacket, they are definitely one of those brands, that just delivers such sick pieces with that top-notch quality that I love. I also love that they make kids jackets as well. When we visited the Cockpit showroom not too long ago, it was one of the rare times that I saw Nate actually get excited about a jacket! He loved the camo & leather bomber so we had to get them!

Whenever I wear any of my Cockpit jackets, they pretty much just make the outfit. I usually keep it simple underneath and let the jacket be that statement piece on top. Whenever I share a look on my Instagram page (@BlueCollarPrep) featuring one, I always get such positive feedback and so much love for them. I cannot wait to get my hands on one of their sheepskin jackets! They are just so top-level, and the sexiness and quality is on point. I seriously need one!
