SOLID BASICS

Like I’ve said once before…sometimes I’m really just into wearing solids and everyday basics – with a few accessories. When you’re wearing a piece like this hat I got – you def have to keep the outfit a little simpler. These boots might be one of my favorite pairs and I’m constantly getting asked what kind and where I got them from – they’re the Beckett 8-Tie Boot Grey Felt Boots by Dr. Marten (unfortunately they’re an older model and no longer available). They’re more fitted around the ankle so to really be able to show them off I gave my Levi’s an old-school tight roll…an instant way to gives any pants that jogger pant look! I recently bought these new Ray-Ban Round Metal Sunglasses and really dig the vintagey feel of the shape of them. As always, my go-to bracelet is the limited edition cuff by Love Bullets – still on the hunt for more men’s jewelry!

A POP OF COLOR

So amped that it’s finally feeling like spring. I was kind of getting sick of my winter clothes, so it feels good to shed some layers and be able to wear short sleeves again! As I get older I find myself more and more into just wearing basics, but still like to give each look a little edge. I’ve had this Izod jacket for a few years now and was honestly not a fan of it anymore until I got inspired to cuff up the sleeves a bunch to give it a new look. Still diggin’ the color of it, so glad I could make it work again! Now that it’s warming up I can get away with rockin’ my fairly new docs without socks and a cuffed jean – simple, but the docs give it that bit of edge that I like. I never used to be a fan of too much jewelry, but I borrowed my wife’s ring, that was my late father-in-laws, and really dug how it looked – now I’m officially on the hunt to find some more men’s jewelry!

EARTHY TONES

It may be spring in NY but it kind of feels more like fall. With the teases of warm-weather, it makes me want to start switchin’ up the wardrobe. Pairing my low-top kicks with a cuffed jean (and no socks) definitely gives my outfits more of that warm-weather vibe. Although, it’s still a bit chilly and windy, so I’m still able to rock my thicker button-downs and cardigans. This cardigan was a good closet staple purchase – got it in both tan and navy – and a good way to top off and layer any outfit! I got this aztec print shirt about 8 years ago and still love it. Some of my family/friends think this shirts a little loud and may bust my b***s for wearing it, but I dig it! You can definitely still see the aztec print around in brands like Pendleton and Ralph Lauren (that’s where I got mine).

CASUAL PLAID WITH A GOORIN

Flannels & FedorasFlannels & Fedoras

I probably have about 10 flannels in my closet. They’re definitely my go-to top for the day to day in the fall and winter. Whether it’s buttoned all the way up (yes, top button too), buttoned half way down, fully open, or tied around my waste, you can’t go wrong when accenting with flannel plaids! I just started wearing more hats lately – this is 1 of 4 that I own. I definitely feel like I can’t rock this everyday, but it’s a good accessory to give a little bit of style and edge to any outfit. As always…GAP jeans and #myeastlandshoes boots!

SPRING KICKS + CUFFED CAMO

Spring Kicks & Cuffed Camo

Spring Kicks & Cuffed Camo Spring Kicks & Cuffed Camo Vans Sneakers

Had these camo pants for a few years and haven’t worn them in a while due to the wide leg at the bottom – that I am no longer a fan of! Thanks to the “Pants Doctor” at www.thelooksmith.com, I got the idea to give them a little face lift so I could rock them again. I took about an inch off the bottom, and finished them off with an old-school tight roll, to give them that jogger-type look that I like! I’ll definitely be going through some of my other older jeans to see if I can salvage a few others that I no longer like. Brilliant idea! The first sunny, dry day I got finally allowed me to give my new canvas white VANS a run – these guys only come out in clean, dry weather lol I found this Feathers brand sweatshirt on the sale rack at Urban Outfitters…definitely a dope find! I tried finding it online for those who were asking where I got it but no luck. Similar pieces below!

‘Aloha’ From NY

Full On Gap

This might be one of my favorite shirts – so when the first day of spring came, I had to bust it out…snow or not. My wife actually loves me in this shirt. You can definitely dress this button-down up or down. I actually prefer pairing dressier pieces with casual pieces to mix it up. This top doesn’t look like your typical Gap piece but I got it from them last season in their sale section for only about $15! Rockin’ my Gap jeans as well. This In4Mation G-Shock goes perfect with this top – love me some coral! I got this LoveBullets bracelet as a gift from my wife and I must say it’s a good accessory to rock every day. It was a limited edition piece so unfortunately it’s no longer available!

Denim’d Out

By now if you’ve been following me on Instagram you know I have a love for denim. I love pairing denim with denim. The more denim I could wear the better lol I’ve had this Orvis jacket for about 5 years and it was actually a hand-me-down…I just started wearing it again and love it! Don’t be so quick to say no to hand-me-downs. Most of my jeans are GAP. They seem to fit me well and you can get them for a reasonable price without breaking the bank since they’re always doing promotions. This outfit was from a few weeks back but I’m finally getting up to keeping the blog current. Don’t be scared to layer up to give those basic pieces a bit of edge!

BADRICK’S

Another month into the beard and I finally found a barber who knows how to shape it up. I had to get rid of my last one because they just weren’t getting’ it! This month I decided to add a few more products to my beard routine. I got the Badrick’s Beard Kit which includes Da Balm, Mug Scrub and LSB (Lock, Stock & Barrel) Bar. They hit their packaging right on the head – it’s super simple with a vintagy feel. The LSB Bar is pretty cool because you’re able to use it all over your entire head…you can wash your face, hair & beard all with the same bar of soap. This stuff smells absolutely amazing. You really cannot get a better smelling anything! I honestly think it should be a candle lol. The tobacco & vanilla scent definitely leaves your beard smelling good – it smells just like you would think plus a fresh, clean smell. Next up I use the Mug Scrub. This helps with flaky skin, clogged pores and embedded facial hair. I used to use my wife’s facial scrub, but now it’s nice to have a manly product to use on my face! The fragrance is almost the same as the bar of soap except it has a little deeper scent to it. I use this the same days I use the bar of soap (probably about 3-4 days a week). I use Da Balm right after the shower when my beard is still slightly damp. I was skeptical of it at first due to its thickness and because it was so different than the oils and previous moisturizers I’ve used. It appears as a beard paste but its a lightweight balm used to promote beard growth and eliminate dryness & redness. I really like the way it leaves my beard feeling. This scent is called Natural Organic Tee Tree Oil – the one thing I do wish, is that they were able to capture the Tobacco & Vanilla smell in this balm…just because I love it so much!  This alone can be used as an oil, but due to it’s healing properties I use this after the shower, at night ,before bed. Between my Stubble & ‘Stache cleanser & conditioner, Badrick’s soap, scrub & balm and KillerBearOil oils & comb, I’ve got a nice collection of guy products in my stash to keep this beard growing strong! A big thanks to all these companies for the support! Without these products this beard would’ve been shaved off by now lol Check these guys out!

24 HRS OF CHRISTMAS

It’s been awhile since I posted but finally got around to going through all my photos from the holidays. // The first Christmas I spent with my wife’s family I felt like I was in a scene straight out the Brady Bunch lol Back in 2002 we were newly dating and it was the first year she invited me over for Christmas Eve which included good food, lots of booze, sitting on Santa’s lap and everyone singing Christmas carols together. Coming from a family who never really went overboard during the holidays I was not prepared for all the chaos lol I would constantly tease her about the amount of holiday cheer her family had. 13 years later I could not imagine not going all out like that on Christmas Eve. It’s a tradition my wife and her family have been doing even before she was born. We start out by going to Sarina’s dad’s side of the family for food, drinks, Santa, gifts and laughs, then head to her aunt’s house for more food, drinks, Santa, gifts and laughs. Nate gets to run around and go nuts with his favorite cousins, while the adults get to get boozy…all while waiting for Santa to arrive (I actually played Santa at least twice). The only way for Santa to show up is by the kids sitting in a circle singing Jingle Bells, Frosty the Snowman and Here Comes Santa Clause. Then the chaos of everyone sitting on Santa’s lap and gift exchanging begins. I was surprised that Nathan is not scared of Santa AT ALL and loves him because he’s the big man that brings him “lots of toys & games”. The next morning Nate gets to open more gifts from Santa while his Nanny cooks us all breakfast. First gifts upstairs, then more down at Nanny’s house. He’s still young so mid way through he got bored of his presents and we actually saved some for the next day! By afternoon we head over to my parent’s house for more food, drinks and gifts. It’s a smaller group at my mom’s but a relaxing and cozy Christmas day with a fire, A Christmas Story and some good couch time! There’s something about going to your parents house and feeling like a kid again while they cook and you get to just lounge out on the couch with some tv! HA Now that Nate’s 2 and more aware of everything I’m happy he gets to experience all the celebration with his family and we continue on with the tradition with him.

Travel

CHRISTMAS IN NYC

Nothing’s more festive than visiting NYC during the holidays. Like most kids, Nathan’s a big fan of choo choo trains, so we decided to take the train down – it was his first time on the train. We took metro north from White Plains and Nathan was beyond excited. He was so excited on the train he had us and the passengers around him cracking up. We went down on a Saturday, which happened to be the same Saturday as Santa-Con, so there was a bunch of youngsters getting buzzy on the train. I’d be lying to say I didn’t want to go home grab my Santa getup and go to the bar…there’s a good chance next year at this time you’ll be seeing a blog post of myself at Santa-Con lol. We started at Grand Central where Nathan was mesmerized – he’s been here before but he’s finally at an age where he gets excited over evertyhing and is like a sponge taking it all in. It was hysterical…The Santa’s from Santa-Con were like celebrities – everyone at Grand Central were asking to take pictures with them all – wish we would’ve gotten a shot of it! We made our way over to Bryant park and shopped the holiday huts. One place really stood out to me – CLIFF – they sold cork accessories…wallets, belts and more all made of cork. We stopped at the Bryant Park tree, watched some of the ice skaters then stopped at Le Carrousel which me and my soon took a ride on. Being that we had a lot to do in a little bit of time we stopped to get a dirty water dog for lunch and kept it moving. From there we headed up 5th for some shopping and to see some of the holiday window displays. Nathan kept asking about the big toy store that we promised to take him to so that was our next stop. Helpful hint…at this time of year the line for FAO goes around the block. If you have a stroller they let you right in. So no matter your kids age grab a stroller! Across from FAO I got a little lost in watching some street dancers and had to be pulled away by my wife lol Next stop…Rockefeller! Nathan was in awe of the big tree. He kept telling me to get closer and closer…so we pushed and squeezed our way all the way until we were right under the tree – I think that was the closest we ever got. Tough task with a stroller. After the tree we stopped for some food. We wanted to keep it casual since it was a long day and Nate was getting tired. We stopped at the British Pub, Cock & Bull where they had a large assortment of tap beers, some cool signature cocktails and some really good bar food. I got the Steak Sandwich, which had Sliced Hangar steak served on toasted Baguette with Balsamic Caramelized onions, roasted garlic aiolo and melted stilton cheese served with hand cut french fries. Their fries were really good – almost like McDonald’s fries, really thin, but you could tell they were hand made and they were well done – just the way I like them! My mother-in-law got the crab cakes which were also really good – and my wife got her usual burger. After dinner we made our way back to Grand Central. Next year we def want to get a hotel in Times Square, like my wife’s family used to do every year, and start that tradition all over with Nate!
